Today's P/L

Today's P/L

Definition: the cumulative profit and loss from the close of the previous trading day to the present time

Formula:

Today's P/L of a Position = (Today's Market Value - Yesterday's Market Value) + (Today's Selling Value - Today's Buying Value)

Today's Market Value is the real-time market value of the position; Yesterday's Market Value is the previous closing price for the regular trading hours multiplied by yesterday’s position size.

Today's P/L of an Account = Sum of Today's P/L of All Positions

Today's P/L is reset: at 12:00 a.m. local time

E.g. In the Australian market, Today's P/L is reset at 12:00 a.m. AET.

Today's P/L%

Formula: Today's P/L% = Today's P/L / (Starting Net Assets + Floating Net Flow Peak)

Explanation:

1) Starting Net Assets

Assets include cash and positions. The definition of Starting for a universal account is as follows:
Universal Account
12:00 a.m. AET

2) Floating Net Flow Peak

It means the peak value of cash changes during the calculation period, and will be 0 if the peak value is less than 0. Cash changes may be due to deposits and withdrawals, fund transfers, currency exchange, position transfers, subscription to or redemption of funds, bond trading, card/coupon deposits, IPO, and ESOP funds transfers. The calculation period for a universal account is as follows:
Universal Account
12:00 a.m.–12:00 a.m. (T+1) AET
Examples:
Example 1: If Today's P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets is 20,000, and 10,000 is withdrawn, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 0.
Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+0) = 5.00%
Example 2: If Today's P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets is 20,000, and 20,000 is deposited, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 20,000.
Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+20000) = 2.50%
Example 3: If Today’s P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets is 20,000, 20,000 is deposited first, and then 10,000 is withdrawn, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 20,000.
Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+20000) = 2.50%
Example 4: If Today's P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets is 20,000, 10,000 is withdrawn, and then 20,000 is deposited, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 10,000.
Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+10000) = 3.33%
