Year-End Tax Forms

Depending on your tax residency status, you may receive the following tax forms.

Statement of Securities Transactions, which is used to report your securities trading income for the year. For each transaction, you will be provided with a separate T5008 slip.

Statement of Investment Income, which is used to report your investment income for the year. Investment income can include interest and dividends. If you received an investment income of 50 CAD or more during the year, you will receive a T5 slip.

Statement of Trust Income Allocations and Designations, which is used to report your income and capital gains from Canadian trusts for the year. If you earned income or capital gains from investing in Canadian real estate investment trusts (REITs), you will receive a T3 slip.

Foreign Person's U.S. Source Income Subject to Withholding is used to report income payments made to foreign individuals or entities that are subject to withholding taxes.

If you have investment income that is subject to withholding, you will receive a Form 1042-S regardless of whether your withholding tax is zero. It's possible to receive multiple Forms 1042-S if you have various types of income, or if different withholding tax rates apply to specific types of income.
