Chinese electric vehicle (EV) firm BYD ($BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)$) is set to outdo rival Tesla ($Tesla (TSLA.US)$)'s production figures for a second year running after reporting on a bumper year on Monday. In total, BYD produced 3.05 million vehicles over 2023 and sold 3.02 million, including both hybrid and battery-only cars. BYD rival's ascent in the global pecking order has put new pressure on Tesla at a time when the U.S. electric-car maker is already leaning on steep price cuts to juice its sales.

Tesla deliveries in the fourth quarter exceeded Wall Street predictions. Elon Musk's Tesla reported Tuesday that it produced 494,989 units and delivered 484,507 vehicles during the fourth quarter. For the full year, vehicle deliveries grew 38% to 1.81 million while production increased 35% to 1.85 million units. TSLA edged down a fraction.
