Last "quadruple witching" day of 2021 in the U.S. market is coming ahead. It's expected to be the largest one in volume of this year, which has rattled many investors and traders.
The quadruple witching hour is the last hour of the trading session on the quadruple witching day when options and futures on indexes and equities expire, Friday.
What is quadruple witching?
Quadruple witching refers to four days when four different financial asset contracts expire in a calendar year.
The days are the third Friday of March, June, September and December. The assets on which the contracts expire on that day are stock options, single stock futures, stock index futures and stock index options. Options contracts also expire monthly. Futures contracts expire quarterly.
Why it matters
Because all four types of contracts expire on the same day, the quadruple witching day usually sees a heavier volume of trading, which will cause market chaos.
Part of the reason for the increase in market transaction volume is the automatic offsetting transactions. Volume on quadruple witching days has increased roughly two-thirds of the time since 2005.
Put it simply, on the negative side, history suggests that returns haven’t improved significantly. Volatility may bring gains or huge losses.
The positive impact on the market that day is that arbitrage trading brings profit opportunities. Active trading, that is, an increase in trading volume, may cause the market to rise.
The $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ dropped 0.06%, 1.31%, and 0.91% on Mar 19, June 18, and Sep 17respectively according to historical data of other three quadruple witching days this year.

i think i will call it witch hunting instead since the market indexes are all red. Hence, it is a time for investors to buy the dip and to have some discount in their purchases. Maybe can look at at attractive tech stocks? $Meta Platforms (FB.US)$

Frankly speaking, I have totally forgotten that today is a quadruple witching day and invested/traded as usual. Although I bought some shares at higher prices before they fell to even lower prices, I did my DCA as usual. So as the market recovers, I am breaking even at the time when I'm writing this.
Everyday is an opportunity so do not let it slip pass you! Rational investment and Patience allow you to go a long way. Have a nice day ahead!

Still trying to understand if Quadruple witching day is a good or bad day for the stock market. From the data, since it is usually a negative day this year, I will keep it short and sweet. Just sleep it off. $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ to watchlist on this day.

The last quadruple witching for the year 2021 before interest rate hikes, so please buy those you are comfortable and sell those that you feel they are going down deep.

Quadruple witching isn’t much different from any other day in the markets. Nontheless, it is common to see choppy trading especially around the open and close, so you might want to exercise some caution if you plan on trading on Quadruple Witching.
2
Don't Need to Fear Quadruple Witching Day as it generally has little impact on long-term investors. In fact, experts advise buy-and-hold investors to ignore this day. They argue that most fluctuations will rebalance after a week or so, and that getting caught up in the excitement of that day's trading could lead to unwise decisions.

As ominous as it sounds, quadruple witching is essentially meaningless for long term-investors. While it can lead to increased volume, it's a misperception it leads to increased volatility – sometimes it can on an already volatile day, but other times it doesn't.
