@AhTian Why, What & How to Short-Term Trade!
For this post, let's take short-term trading as intra-day trading that last from seconds to minutues. It's commonly termed as scalp, intrad-day swing trading. I'll use scalp here.
@BT11 Day/Swing trader
Keep your emotions away from the charts. My personal technical analysis of price action in charts relies on simply RSI (14 length) and chart patterns. Identifying the right patterns and how to utilise a trading strategy with it is a crucial complimentary tool I use for entry/exit.
@Business Insider DCA is the best strategy!
Bought $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ back in 2017 for about 300$ pre split. Sold it in 2018 for a tiny profit and to decrease my cost basis. They were swinging between 200-300 all the time.
@Dadacai Some Pointers for Day Trading
I will give a brief overview of the VWAP indicator which is often used by day traders. Trade when the mind is clear and alert. Play small. Plan your entry and exit. A good knowledge of technical indicators is required.
@GT1982 How Did I Started Short Term Trading
I started off as a short term trader before finding my style as a long term investor. No personal feelings should be involved in trading. Only fundamentals, technicals and numbers should be the deciding factors.
@IcySilver Swing trade like a Pro...
Swing trading is most useful when the market condition is volatile, without long clear trend. Currently the market does seem so. Thus, it may be a good time to look more into swing trading, or quick-entry-quick-exit trades.
@Jin1978 Some personal tips on short-term trading
If u cannot stomach the risk (10% to 30% movement usually), stay away from risky trades. Set a cut-loss price. Remember to withdraw your profits every now and then! Don’t keep pumping all your profits for the next trade!
@kaito666 My short term stock trading step
Read the news, consider different scenarios, weigh up the odds and technical analysis. In this event that any of the above scenarios do materialise, go straight to your price charts and use technical analysis to find entry and exit points for the long or short trade you have chosen.
@Moo Top I am a part-time Day Trader
My favourite technical setup is VWAP + 9EMA and 20EMA, looking at 1min and 5min candle stick. Do your own due diligence (DYODD) on the stocks that you want to day trade with.
@102637896 My Views on Short Term Trading
Apart from reading technical indicators and charts, I think the following are important that I learnt: Position sizing. Establish entrance, stop loss and target price before trade. Mental Strength.

Part Ⅱ: Voting on the “Mentor Moo” Title
Finally, let's announce the winner, @Dadacai! Congratulations! You will get a badge as a reward to acknowledge your efforts in the Co-Wise contest. The badge will be shown on the profile page for your progress and achievement.
Mooers' Strategies: Habits to Become a Better Trader
Now, it's time for voting! Let's vote for the candidates to see who will win the "Mentor Moo" title. Your vote means a lot to them!
We should keep a clear mind and stay alert to the markets where milliseconds count. Please be aware that different time zones could impact the timings of your investment. It's crucial to set profit targets and stop-loss when entering a trade. Besides, technical indicators could help you identify the signals in the market and thus improve the odds of winning. Discipline and a solid trading plan could help you advance in short-term investing. As mooers' say, there is no best strategy. Just stick with the one that you can reap profit from it. Remember, what matters the most is the one that suits you the best.

Recently, I'm learning day trading strategies. And I want to share some points with mooers, also want masters to give me some advice. @Dadacai @GratefulPanda @HopeAlways @Mars Mooo @Syuee @Mcsnacks H Tupack
The most important rules are Granville's 8 Rules, which principle is to use the resistance and support from MA to find out the best entry position points for trend trading investments.
1. Four buying signals
Breakout Buy - It is a buying signal when the price rises from the bottom and breaks the MA of tendency level.
Call-back Buy - When the price goes beyond the MA, and the call-back does not fall below the MA can be considered as a buying signal.
Fake Breakout Buy - The price falls below the MA. However, if the MA is still rising and the short-term price goes back upon the MA, it is a buying signal.
Off-buy - When the price keeps falling and accumulates specific declines, and it begins to deviate from the moving average, it is a buying signal.
$AMC Entertainment (AMC.US)$ $Apple (AAPL.US)$ $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$
2. Four selling signals
Breakout Sell - It is a selling signal when the price falls from above and breaks the MA of tendency level.
Bounce Sell - When the price goes below the MA and rebounds but does not exceed the MA, it is a selling signal.
Fake Breakout Sell - The price rises and breaks the MA. However, the MA is still falling, and the short-term price falls below the MA. It is a selling signal.
Off-sell - When the price keeps rising and accumulates specific increases and starts deviating from the MA, it is a selling signal.
$RLX Technology (RLX.US)$ $Alibaba (BABA.US)$ $BABA-W (09988.HK)$
I found that the intraday market rebounded quickly when the trending fell sharply. If you buy at a low point, you can significantly profit from the rebound. If you make an excellent stop-loss, the profit-loss ratio should be good. I will back-test $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ 's intraday trends to see its effectiveness. Here I use the five-minute bar for trading, and the corresponding moving average is VWAP.
We can see that $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ 's historical trend is in line with falling below the moving average at a rapid rate and then quickly rebounding back to the MA. It can be found that at the relatively lowest point, the needle-shaped k-line has been released and closed, and the angle of the downward movement below the moving average is enormous at the beginning. It looks very effective!
But in actual combat, I don't know the success rate, so you still need to set a stop loss just in case. The buying point of this kind of disk shape is when it falls below the intraday moving average. After a period of rapid decline at a large angle, a heavy volume is accompanied by a needle-shaped k-line is the buying point, and the selling point is to rebound to the moving average. Nearby, the stop loss point is the lowest buying point k-line.

I’m a long term investor so these are just some of the lessons I’ve learnt from my limited experience with day trading. I will also give a brief overview of the VWAP indicator which is often used by day traders.
Lessons Learnt
1) Trade when the mind is clear and alert
Do not trade when you’re feeling sleepy, tired, unwell or troubled. This is especially true when trading in a foreign market with time zone differences. Day trading requires snap decisions and you can’t make those decisions if you are feeling poorly.
2) Play small
Limit the amount invested to a small percentage of your capital so it wouldn’t hurt if it is lost entirely. This is important as there is no such thing as a hundred percent success rate.
3) Plan your entry and exit
Set target profit and stop loss when entering a trade. This helps you to know when to exit. Do not hesitate or second guess yourself. Capital preservation is important.
4) A good knowledge of technical indicators is required
This enables one to spot and interpret the signals. Using a number of technical indicators helps to confirm the signal and improve the probability of wins.
VWAP Indicator
VWAP stands for volume-weighted average price. It is basically the average trading price of a stock after taking into account the volume. The formula is VWAP = number of shares x typical price divided by the total number of shares. Since VWAP is calculated from previous prices, there will be a lag which becomes bigger throughout the day. VWAP is reset each day.
How to view VWAP in Moomoo:
In Detailed Quotes, click on Chart Settings > Indicators > VWAP.
Make sure VWAP is checked. You can modify the colour if you wish.
Once this is done, return to the chart. You can click VWAP at the bottom of the chart (portrait mode) or on the right hand side of the chart (landscape mode). In the pictures below, VWAP is the yellow line.
How To Use VWAP Indicator
A rising VWAP shows that buyers have more control, a declining VWAP shows that sellers have more control and a flat VWAP means the stock is trading within a range. When the price is above VWAP, it is in the overbought zone and when the price is below VWAP, it is in the oversold zone.
VWAP can be used to establish support and resistance price levels. In general, traders try to trade close to VWAP in anticipation of a bounce off (long) or a decline (short). Institutional investors use VWAP as a benchmark when planning their entries and exits to minimise their effect on the market price. So do companies when they do share buybacks e.g. $Apple (AAPL.US)$ .
It is a good idea to use VWAP in conjunction with other technical indicators such as MACD, RSI and Stochastic to confirm the signal before executing a trade. Use a paper account to practise and test out your strategies before risking any real money.

These are my personal best practices. Which from 1 to 5 you love most? Here:
1. If you want to be a day trader in stocks, you need a minimum of $30,000 in the USD.
2. TA Technical analysis and CR chart reading are both essential skills for a day trader to have but use with care.
3. Beware emotion swings in the Market
4. Flip away your Hearsay Prata Friends who will cloud your judgements.
5. Be clear about a stock you buy is for short term or long term. Often, day trading earn by entering and closing out multiple trades in a day in pursuit of profits is for short term for example.
Love 💝 💕 ❤️

How to start short term trading?
most important point is that as a beginner, focus on a maximum of one to two stocks during a session. Tracking and finding opportunities is easier with just a few stocks.
next, never get into penny stocks. they r extremely volatile. avoid new emerging meme stocks such as $Biora Therapeutics (PROG.US)$ or $Pear Therapeutics (PEAR.US)$ too. they can easily go down 10% in 5min… 😩either go moon or hell…. personally, i would prefer large cap stocks like $Apple (AAPL.US)$ or $Tesla (TSLA.US)$. comfirm less profit…. but it’s much safer.
it may be better just to read the market without making any moves for the first 15 to 20 minutes. The middle hours are usually less volatile, and then movement begins to pick up again toward the closing bell, especially during power hour. safer for beginners to watch the market first
don’t panic if things doesn’t go in your way. no personal feelings, emotions!!!! cool down, stick to your technical analysis. if the chart does not meet your technical analysis, just cut loss and move on.
LASTLY, SAY NO TO MARGINN
Hope i can win a $ContextLogic (WISH.US)$ or $American Airlines (AAL.US)$ stock!!!
sharing the poster i got from the $Futu Holdings Ltd (FUTU.US)$ 9th anniversary challenge for those who r interested as well!! please like and share your reviews!

Love the adrenalin of day trading. As I still hold a day job, the US market is nicely set-up for my day trading. Sharing my routine as below:
Pre-Market
1. Broad Market and Stocks Analysis: Listen to my favourite Youtubers daily on their stocks and broad market analysis. This is to gather stock opinions and information for any possible scalp run later. I also scour Moomoo news for interesting events.
Tips: I put on "listening mode" instead of watching the videos so that I can multi-task on another stuffs. YouTube Premium subscription helps too to avoid ads and save time.
One hour prior to Market Opens
2. Switch TradersTV on YouTube to look at the market trends and the pre-market movers.
3. Build my watch list of around 5 stocks that I could possibly trade on when market opens.
Market Opens
4. My favourite technical setup is VWAP + 9EMA and 20EMA, looking at 1min and 5min candle stick.
5. I only like to long a stock, hence I will look for 3 continuous green candle sticks run at 1min before commiting a trade.
6. My exit plan comprises of (a) take profit at 3% upside (b) exit trade at 2% downside or (c) exit trade at end of day (stock and market dependent)
7. Typically, I only day-trade 1 to 2 hours after market opens. This is when market is most volatile for day trade. I will keep at least 10% cash and leverage on margin in day-trading.
One hour prior to Market Close
8. If I am holding a stock after lunch EST, I will wake up 1 hour prior to Market close to watch the stock. Usually, I aim to close the trade (profit or loss) within the same day as part of my day trading plan. This is to prevent myself from being a bag-holder. If I uses margin, I will close the trade on the same regardless of outcome.
Trading Reviews:
9. Good scalp run on 4 Nov in a 4 mins upside. Taking near to 900+ USD in profit.

10. Longer hold but exit decisively with loss on 9 Dec. Accept near 600+ USD losses
$NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$
My Learning Points
11. Do your own due diligence (DYODD) on the stocks that you want to day trade with.
12. Have a proper exit plan before you enter. Do not hesitate to close a bad trade. Live to fight another day
13. Lastly, my take to profiting in short-term trading is to "Stay in the winning trades most of time and Exit losing trade quickly".
Pre-Market
