Mathew Midcap : It's not a matter of liking or not liking.
If a stock has bad fundamentals with fake hype and emotion surrounding it and is therefore overvalued, it should be shorted.
The act of shorting does not directly cause ANYONE to lose money -- the actions of the company do. If their actions lead to lots of shorting and the short bet pays off, only those who failed to do their due diligence will lose money.
The company is the catalyst, regardless. And you generally won't lose money holding long positions unless you buy stock for reasons like HYPE, POPULARITY, ETC.
more people need to do their homework.
