Inflation I actually don't know, my best guess would be stock splits followed by some bad moves... @mcsnacks can probably tell you that I'm completely wrong

Bankruptcy, stock dilution from offerings that didn’t pan out, interest on debt, a failed merger or acquisition, a failed product, lawsuits. A multiple of things. I know with a lot of pharmaceutical stocks whose FDA approval fell thru crashed their stock from 25.00 to .50 in a couple of days. Or the lawsuits against the companies found guilty in the pain pill cases and were fined billions put their stock at .20c with no chance of recovery

You have to remember stocks are based on investor sentiment. Bad news or reviews affect it in large amounts. It rarely has to do with ER, EPS, Sales or revenue anymore. It’s why there are stocks who have no sales or products are traded at 10-20.00. Their idea or future plans are being traded. Like some of the EV stocks.

It’s why manipulation is possible. If the market was based on actual facts and present truths if there was manipulation it would be easily proven and stopped. But it’s hard to prove manipulating a future idea or sentiment and how it will pan out.

Generally a stock going public with not a lot to back up the offer. It’s the classic day trade transaction when on offering day. You’ll notice (especially in pharma) most companies have that spike in the beginning. Policy at the time and other factors like the 2008 housing bubble can play into spikes and timelines. Look at the date and search and you’ll find a reason via news pf prices rising and falling.
