TOOMUCHDOG obcmullet : We didn't NEED it to, persay. What people are going on about is how dropping over 10% of the open would put GME on the Short Restriction List for the remainder of today and tomorrow.
The SSR means that the stock can only be shorted during upticks, making it more difficult for HF's to keep the price down.
This would have been a particularly helpful situation to be in on a Friday, when calls expire. The higher the price at close on Friday = more calls expiring ITM (in the money) = more shares able to be purchased en masse, driving the price up further.
Either way, we've had multiple green days & today's bull push to nearly 150 tells me that shorts are losing their effectiveness.
