AMC vs CNK?

AMC almost collapsed while Cinemark had enough cash to get through COVID on their own. The AMC theater in my town shut down for being completely awful; meanwhile, Cinemark has always been clean, well run, and competitively priced. Why is AMC beating Cinemark right now? I must be missing something...
