I suspect that this was shorted, they figured the retail investors would spook and sell off, and they would either buy back very low or crush Sundial entirely. Investors didn't flee, plus I'm guessing institutional investors averaged down. Continued support around $1.13 likely meant the shorts are slowly buying their way back out. I may be artistic so who knows...
