$NIO Inc (NIO.US)$ I think "as a service" is the future for most things. It actually benefits everyone in a physical product like this even more. Customers pay less up front and payments are affordable (and less costs/upkeep), but the company will actually bring in more in the long term.

I think battery as a service is a great idea, and could remain popular in densely populated areas or areas where charging stations aren't available. Even if the batteries and chargers get exponentially better, there's still a market there. The up front cost of the car is attractive.

Nio might be positioned to offer a driverless car service as well, as we may see a shift away from car ownership in dense cities. Monthly income from services will mean they won't need to sell more cars every year to be heavy in cash flow.
