you can Average Down if the stock price lowers, by buying more shares at that time... or if price continue to go up , Averaging your price up buying more shares at the higher price. Average price is difference between the two (or more) prices you have purchased shares at. Example: Bought at 20.00 first time, bought at 15 second time. 20+15=35/2=17.5average price of the position.

Of course, thank you.. This is very simple explanation, and of course depends on how many shares you have purchased at each level. The example I showed assumed on 1 share only at ea price.....
