Dirtman : Not an expert but here it goes:
Short pool remains means how much legally they can borrow to short. They sell, hoping it goes down, they buy at the low and return. As all borrows, they will have to pay an interest.
Now why are they bleeding so badly? When they short and the support is there and no1 is selling, the price rebounces and at times go past what they sold at. Which means, not only are they paying interest till they buy and return, they are buying higher than they sold.
Why does it go up and down? Simple, they need it to short and if they return within the day, there is no interest.
Moral of the story, no1 sells, there is no shares for them to buy back. The support is there at the dips, they buy back higher than the price they sold. So....either buy or just hold and we win!
