WISeKey International Holdings Limited announced a new research and development partnership with MINES Saint-Etienne Research Institute ("MINES Saint-Etienne-Etienne"), an internationally renowned multidisciplinary university and laboratory established in 1816, to help the international community find cryptographic algorithms that can withstand future quantum computing-based cyber attacks. They will jointly participate in the relevant National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standardization program (NIST PQC) launched in 2016. The study of quantum computing, that is, how to make use of quantum mechanical phenomena for fast calculation, began in the early 1980s. The prospect and incredible performance offered by this promising technology is so great that many countries are sponsoring public / private R & D programs. With French President Jean-Claude Macron's Quantum Project, launched in January 2021 and costing 1.8 billion euros over five years, France rejoined the top three places of the United States and China, leading the international competition. WISeKey and MINES Saint-Etienne will cooperate in this context.
