Dear moomooers
Thank you so much for participating in the first season of the US Stock Paper Trading Competition held by moomoo. With given virtual cash, traders can build out the portfolio they always dreamed of, all experience levels investors were welcomed and top performers will be rewarded final prizes.
Now let's take a look athow did our leading participants perform in the previous week under the different market dynamic atmosphere.
Market Recap
U.S. stocks hung on to their gains for July, despite drifting lower in a quiet final trading session of the month.
A months-long rally in U.S. stocks has slowed down in recent weeks on worries about the outlook for the economy and the resurgence of the pandemic. Lingering concerns over regulation of Chinese internet and technology businesses, as well as lofty expectations for corporate earnings, also weighed on sentiment this week. $Amazon.Com Inc(AMZN.US)$'s disappointing sales report late Thursday and weaker outlook rattled Wall Street further, investors say.
Nevertheless, the S&P 500 managed to close out July with another month of gains, thanks in part to rallying shares of utilities and real-estate companies. The bondlike stocks tend to pay hefty dividends to investors, making them look relatively attractive when markets are volatile.
· The $S&P 500 index(.SPX.US)$ fell 23.89 points, or 0.5%, to 4395.26 Friday and rose 2.3% in July -- marking its sixth consecutive month of gains.
· The $Dow Jones Industrial Average(.DJI.US)$ slipped 149.06 points, or 0.4%, to 34935.47 and posted a 1.3% gain for the month.
· The $Nasdaq Composite Index(.IXIC.US)$ lost 105.58 points, or 0.7%, to 14672.68 and added 1.2% for the month.
"There are so many crosscurrents going on at the moment influencing markets," said Sebastian Mackay, a multiasset fund manager at Invesco. "We've entered a more volatile period for markets, but markets will continue to move higher because we're still seeing economic growth."
Disappointing quarterly results from technology companies put pressure on some growth stockslastFriday.
Stock of The Week
Biotech SE, the co-developer of the first vaccine that received FDAEmergency Use Authorization (EUA), hascome to the attention of our participants during the previous week. The share price of the company surged as much as 16% over the previous week after it announced promising news. The company has posted the news that includes a future plan of mRNA vaccine price hike, a future vaccine development plan for malaria, as well as an expanding testing number of children for mRNA vaccine required by the FDA. As the new variant brought back uncertainty to the market, the entire healthcare sector will likely continue togain momentum in the future few months.
