Co-Wise: How do you pick a stock?
Views 1.1M Contents 283

How I pick my stocks.

I pick stocks based on a few factors.

The first factor is simply picking stocks which I am personally familiar with on a day to day basis due to my day job. I am in IT/Cybersecurity, I know my own market, the types of companies, the people from each of these companies locally, how they are doing, the sentiment in the market for each brand. This knowledge gives me the comfort of knowing what I'm dealing with, rather than depending on just news/data I get off social media, which can be extremely biased/emotional. With "tech/cyber" being a high growth sector, inside knowledge of these companies is critical.

The second factor is to pick a vertical/sector which I again am familiar with from a personal/hobby interest level. I am a huge automotive fan, this means again familiarity with regards to data within that space, w/o having to do too much research beyond my own interest levels. This means any "reading/research" I do is already part of my normal daily activities/routines, whether they are from social media, websites, blogs, etc that are already giving me the necessary intel/updates I need of the background of each stock I pick.

With both of the above driving my investment decisions, this means I can earn passive income while balancing this with my day job, which is the best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned. This is a different approach compared to just looking at the P&Ls and market sentiment of each company/stock, which can fluctuate wildly based on the news of the day. This is an approach however, that is more suited to long term, value investing, rather than the folks looking to make short term revenue.

Hope the above helps!
