What is ESG and how to invest in it?
Governments of the world's top greenhouse gas emitter are working towards a net-zero future, in which emissions are reduced or offset. So ESG investing has grown in prominence.
Recently, Cathie Wood, whose Ark Invest is the largest active exchange traded fund provider in the US, has filed to launch a passively managed Transparency ETF, a divergence from her trademark focus on innovation.
What is ESG?
ESG is a system for how to measure the sustainability of a company or investment in three specific categories: environmental, social and corporate governance.
Why is it important?
And from consumers to policy makers, many economic actors are backing sustainability — and creating a powerful portfolio opportunity for investors.
ESG funds post strong performance during 2020. Of 26 sustainable index funds analyzed by investment research company Morningstar in April, 24 outperformed comparable traditional funds in the first quarter of 2020 (and the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic).
