EV start-up $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ filed for an IPO on Oct.1 and I guess the stocks can soon be traded. Rivian beat $Tesla (TSLA.US)$, $General Motors (GM.US)$ and $Ford Motor (F.US)$ to the market with an electric pickup, the R1T, which has received glowing early reviews. (The car is soooo dope by the way.![]()

PirateyAhoy : $BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)$ & $NIO Inc (NIO.US)$ also have good take up and commercial success outside of the US...I actually think that the commercial EV vehicle space (trucks, forklifts, buses etc) is a greater market than the market Tesla is targeting
RageAndLove : This is one I’m excited about. Their pickup truck is badass. I love how sleek and simple it is with its one bar headlight. It reminds me of the $Apple (AAPL.US)$ of vehicles. You can tell that it means business on the inside, but the outside is sleek, beautiful, simplicity.
Rocket Man : $Lucid Group (LCID.US)$ has really nice cars and their design is awesome. Once the production line starts to run. I am sure they will be one of the strong competitors.

mark01bravz : Look at cybertruck. they already have 1 million pre-orders. Not sure about rivian. Remember that Tesla's statement : "no.2 needs a telescope to see us". the lead is just that unassailable. Heck even google also acknowledge that. what is there to say ?

Syuee : Rivian R1S SUV may pose the biggest threat to $Tesla (TSLA.US)$. Depending on the choice of battery pack, the Rivian R1S promises to deliver from 240 to 410 miles of driving between charges. This is much further than the Tesla Model X, which can be driven only 237 to 295 miles.
But Rivian's success is not guaranteed. It's too young to have built brand loyalty or a nationwide network to service its vehicles. Another issue, it will have to prove, too, that it can mass produce vehicles at a profit. Which is a real challenge $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ has already survived, though not without hiccups.
So, I will go for $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ for now.
HopeAlways : $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ matters as it offers Americans another choice when it comes to an EV maker other than the hugely successful $Tesla (TSLA.US)$. What matters more is perhaps $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ will be the first to market an electric pick-up truck. With a headstart, an exciting vehicle and fresh capital, will that be enough for the new car company to succeed? The path to its success may not be easy as it is almost unknown and has little time for mistakes. $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ does not have the same opportunities as $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ to experiment and figure things out without the competition. For now, $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ seems to be a safer bet as its success story is not easy to replicate.
