Nikkei: Apple drastically cuts iPad production to meet iPhone 13 chip demand
Nikkei quoted a number of sources as reporting that Apple has drastically cut iPad production in order to equip the iPhone 13 with more components. This sign indicates that the impact of the global chip supply shortage on Apple is more severe than previously indicated.
In the past two months, iPad production has dropped 50% from Apple's original plan, while components from older iPhones have also been transferred to iPhone 13.
Sources said that the reason why Apple prioritized the launch of the iPhone 13 is partly because Apple predicts that as the epidemic eases, market demand for phones will be stronger than demand for iPads.
