As certain as the sun rises and sets, nothing stays up forever. While many aspects of our lives and economy now depend on technology, that doesn’t mean all technology stocks are equal.
Even as the technology sector can continue to grow, individual companies’ strengths and competitiveness can change with the emergence of new competitors, new technology, new business models, regulatory changes, changes in consumers’ tastes and lifestyles, poor leadership, etc. Today’s leader can easily be tomorrow’s laggard if it becomes complacent, fail to continue to innovate or is unable to adapt to changes. Therefore, it is important to keep tabs on the company’s performance.

Last but not least, price fluctuations in equities are inevitable and the market moves in cycles. The axiom of buying low and selling high still applies. Investing in a great company at the wrong price won’t make one money. Warren Buffet is known to have great patience when waiting for the right price to buy a company and he has been rewarded many times over.
