$Lucid Group (LCID.US)$ $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ This Tue is IPO for Rivian, another new EV player in the share market with super huge potential. the 2 reasons why I think so are:
1. Although EV too, it is mainly in trucks and vans segment, so differentiate itself from Tesla and Lucid, hence no direct competition. And with its strong backing, should be taking majority of that pie.
2. It is back by Amazon and Ford, with orders already placed by Amazon for 50,000(I think) delivery trucks. I’m sure this is just the beginning. With worldwide network, Amazon will no doubt provide these trucks to all places where their business covers. Since Ford is invested heavily in it too, I’m sure Ford will provide necessary technical support if the needs arise. While Ford may not be experienced in EV technology, it is still adequate to assist in car making knowledge with their century long experience in automobile. Will avoid many unnecessary pit falls which is crucial to survive in long run. Tesla almost bankrupt because of lack of experience in some ways.
So I really think it’s worth investing partially in Rivian too, besides Lucid. The IPO price will be high, 3rd most expensive IPO to date but we can extrapolate from history that IPO price will always surge up by a lot then fall below their initial price.
So those who want to buy the surge, buy lesser amount, something you are prepared to hold if for unknown reason, it plunge down instead, and set trailing stop function or stop price to auto sell when it falls from its high price.
For those who want to just hold for long, wait for the price to come down again after the surge and buy in batches since we don’t know how long it will fall before picking up. This way you don’t miss the uptrend nor buy still at a high price and have to wait for it to recover first and lose potential gain.
i will be doing both methods, to gain from the initial surge then buy back again when it has fall to a low price. This is just my take, please do your own research to decide, don’t just base on my words. Cheers!

Btyt1989 : Thanks for the insight. Have actually been waiting for this IPO but they pushed its initial entry point from 57-62 to 72-74. Kind of risky for me personally as no new EVs have hit that price yet even for season players like Nio etc. And preorders of 100k have been made by Amazon and Ford but it’s only predeposits that can be refunded (indirectly meaning it’s just figures to Given assurance to public it has orders). But I’ll be roughly doing the same, just very minor buy in if the starting surge, But will probably only enter when it dips to a stabilising point of 20/30s. Good luck and cheers
Devilton OP Btyt1989 : Almost certain it will surge, only a question of by how much. once passes $10 profit, can set stop sell at that and once it goes way more, we can set trailing stop at about 5%-10% but I recommend at 5% since once it falls over 5%, panic selling may set in and triggers plunge at rapid speed and risk making losses again if can’t find buyer.
True, Amazon can withdraw their preorder but I see no benefit in doing so. It will risk its reputation and being top 5, it’s not a worthwhile move. I see it as that Amazon really has intention for buying trucks from Rivian, that’s why the huge investment into it and the announcement is more of a fanfare to create excitement and confidence for its IPO advent, way ahead of the whole execution of the deal.
JOHN AVATAR : How do you know Tursday is the RIVN IPO?
Do you know at what time of the day?
Devilton OP JOHN AVATAR : A quick search online did the trick. The time is not known yet but I asked my broker friends, likely to be noon time in the US, about 3pm. On the day itself I’ll see search to see if there’s any news about the time. My friend also told me to check back with him again to see if he found out the time. If not I’ll start to check online and moomoo platform for news of the advent about 1am to play safe.
kat kukuuu : Reasonable analysis! You can invest but don't invest all
Devilton OP Btyt1989 : Btw please take note that when you place an order for trailing stop, always select to fill outside of RTH so that it will sell pre or post market when the condition met. I just learnt that with a lesser profit from TLSA price drop just now. Haha. FYI RTH means regular trading hours. Good luck!
