$52 Billion Valuation Makes No Sense

$Rivian Automotive(RIVN.US)$ At its expected valuation of ~$52 billion, Rivian would be valued on par with Honda, a manufacturer that produced more than 4.5 million vehicles worldwide in fiscal 2021, and nearing Stellantis, BMW, and more. See Figure 1. At $1.2 trillion, Tesla’s market cap is off the chart and is therefore excluded from Figure 1.

  • wild horse : Wonder what sort of odds he's taking on the first day pop....

  • Milenko : This is how Stock market works. What about LCID? trading at market cap of 77 billion. Tesla worth over 1 Trillion???

  • T_shares Milenko : Tesla's valuation is easier to justify than Lucid or Rivian's. Not saying Tesla is not overvalued but at least a case can be made. Rivian is trying to get a higher valuation than Tesla had when it started model 3 deliveries. That is a vehicle that had 400k pre-orders

  • EEC6iRWd4p : Honda lol. Good luck with that mate.

  • TvhXCjkODq : Not to devalue your case as a whole, but winter is coming for ICE. These new EV companies approach car production and car ownership differently than the legacy manufacturers. Legacy manufacturers do not reach for the same revenue from ownership as the new companies. Multiple revenue streams will emerge with the new companies just as Tesla already has and much the same way that apple squeezes every last penny out of its services segment. Not saying this should justify a higher market cap without volume production, just that there will be a significant amount of high margin services complementing production well before 2030 arrives. Disclosure: I do not own nor do I plan on owning any shares of Rivian in the next 6 months.

  • vYcu5FgULx TvhXCjkODq : Ammonia and green hydrogen will replace EVs. Battery power is just a transitional technology.

  • KHVgqUvpZS vYcu5FgULx : In 50 years. Too much $$ and infrastructure and manufacturing around EV batteries at this time. May even take longer than 50 years as the public mindset/perception would have to shift significantly.
