$QuantumScape(QS.US)$ QS long fwiw.
My fear is this could be an Orbital Engine Direct Fuel Injection scenario all over again. They had the best system, defended their patents (it cost Johnson/Evinrude dearly). Everyone danced with them & patented around their patents. They pivoted & went into the UAV niche. The big 3 or insert number didn't want to be THAT beholden to Orbital given they used an air-pump as well.
My gut tells me QS has the best battery tech bar none, & that is just me self educating on how all this stuff works.
Why would VW w/ their German business mindset didn't bet the farm on them without a reason? If QS stumbles, they have what for a fall back?
My guess is QS has a greater play in E-VTOL with its quick charge, great energy density, & other benefits that become even more mission critical for these flying machines. Waiting to see one of those Players to team up with QS. FAA certification of their battery? Worth its weight in platinum imho, no one will have it. A Tangent market who demands such performance & their checks don't bounce ? Mil-Spec, think about that market fir a second...

  • Brain Gomes : I was in QS for a time, and actively traded options in the name due to the volatility resulting from its “battleground stock” status. Made money on both the underlying shares themselves and the options. If the price comes back down to earth again….say, mid-$20s, thereabouts…I’d probably re-establish a position. If not, then good for them and I’ll happily watch their success. I think they have some great IP and very good corporate leadership.

  • arts food business : Have you looked at Solid Power? They are still in the SPAC stage, but recently announced a significant cooperative agreement with South Korea’s SK Innovation that looks interesting. SPAC ticker is DCRC. I have no positions in either QS or DCRC at present, but I’m watching with high interest levels.
    Good luck to us…

  • Oavbab arts food business : I have a position in DCRC as well. I've met Doug Campbell at the EvtechExpo, nice guy, Solid entry imho no pun intended. Their focus was and is a manufacturable battery that performs well. Their is room for them in the marketplace. I can't wrap my arms around SES's technology which is GM's play, I need to do more research.

  • Rickydi Oavbab : BMW has a stake in DCRC Solid Power. So the Germans are at best split. F is also behind Solid Power. As a quasi hedge fund F has some street cred with Argo, RIVN and soon SLDP as an emerging portfolio.

  • zukG4HQuCI Rickydi : "So the Germans are at best split." "Big Auto" sometimes is weird. I have seen them use different CAD systems just because they don't want to use what their competitor is using or loose their trained people to a competitor who would steal employees since they are using the same system (BTW it cost the Tiers big $ to keep all these systems in house, which weeded out the small mom & pops, they sold off and retired to FLA, see how that works?). My guess is that goes for a lot of suppliers as well.

I love Kimchi
