Dollar cost averaging
$Alibaba (BABA.US)$ When entering a new position, I like to buy it slowly over a period of a year or longer. This reduces the impact of starting valuations and short term market movements on my long term returns. Alibaba is a perfect example of how dollar cost averaging can reduce volatility even if you think you're buying the dip on a heavily undervalued company.
Of course, this advice is relatively non-controversial and not very practical for people have already invested heavily in Alibaba, so I won't spend any more time on it.
