My feeble interpretation is FB aka Meta is not interested in a nVidia specific Metaverse solution aka Omniverse. In fact Zuck seems to indicate a full in-house development (read no nVidia direct involvement) to support his Occulus line of headsets. Zuck goes on to say, "So I think from my perspective, without a doubt, you’re going to have some companies that are trying to build incredibly siloed things, and then some that are trying to build more open and interoperable ones. .... we’re going to be contributing to trying to build a more open and interoperable one, and that’s kind of our goal here."
lovely mory : Let me help your feeble interpretation: Zuckerberg has no choice.
There is only one vendor in the world who has a working solution and who can deliver the critical pieces. Sure Zuck will put his own UX on it, but all the plumbing, all the acceleration GPUs, all the servers and a lot of the software is going to be Nvidia. But you're right on one aspect, it's not Nvidia specific, they just provide the pieces and will let everyone apply their own look and feel.
ChitoR0XS : Agreed. Zuck wants to sell headsets. And they will very easily bolt onto the nvidia ecosystem, so Zuck will do his own development for that.
But then you go on to try and disparage Nvidia with my way or the highway crap. Is that what Nvidia is going for self driving? No. Customers can take as little or as much of that solution as they want. Despite your very narrow read of the article, there is no reason to believe Omniverse will be any different than what they do in AVs.
So try again? All the key IP Metaverse business is going to NVDA, there is no alterna
xZeusXL ChitoR0XS : Well Said!
ZenBunny5 : Sucker-berg pretend they own the Metaverse just by changing their name to META then clams everything are theirs. NVDA already has Omniverse working in the commercial world but FB has nothing... Just going to start working on something next year. If they use NVDA name, they will be embarrassed by what they have and claim today... just the Oculus headset. Buying Oculus after 7 years then coming up with newer head set is not a technology leader. Remember one thing, everything is marketing for FB, and they have a very bad name they want to get rid of.
