Toyota Busts The Car Microchip Shortage - Returning to full production by EOY

$Toyota Motor(TM.US)$ Toyota has announced it will be back to full global production capacity in December. In fact, the company says it anticipates churning out 800,000 vehicles next month, up from the 760,000 it made in December of 2020.

I assume they're storing CPUs and other parts and have modified the Toyota Production System to get around this. I wouldn't say it's signs of the shortage ending. Trust Toyota to find a way out of all the car companies.

Thought it was an interesting bit of news, maybe they will benefit from this while other automakers struggle to get cars delivered, or maybe they won't because people are willing to wait for the cars they want

  • Palmyra : We have invested in our own chip manufacturing while still buying from established sources. Also after the nuclear meltdown in Japan back in 2011, Toyota divested their supply chain. This has put Toyota in a position to recover quicker compared to the competitors.

  • Ilona : The good thing with the shortage this time is that it seems like a lot of companies are learning a similar lesson now.

  • Orlagh : Kia and Hyundai maintained reserve inventory of chips before the covid stuff took off. Its played well for them as they have not had any production delays, only shipping delays and their dealerships maintain full inventories still to this day
