Stocks closed sharply lower on Wall Street Friday after a coronavirus variant from South Africa appeared to be spreading across the globe. The $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ lost 905 points. The $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ fell 2.3%, its worst day since February and the $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ had its worst drop in two months.

Travel and energy stocks are among the biggest losers, with $Royal Caribbean (RCL.US)$ , $Carnival (CCL.US)$ , and $Norwegian Cruise (NCLH.US)$ all off over 10%.

However, there's a big contrast in one sector. Vaccine stocks went all the way up on Black Friday. Shares of the top COVID-19 vaccine developers $Moderna (MRNA.US)$ , $Pfizer (PFE.US)$ , and $Novavax (NVAX.US)$ all vaulted higher. The pandemic's latest twist makes these three stocks screaming buys even when the whole market was heading south.
