Thermo Fisher confirms that its products can detect Omicron variants

Thermo Fisher (TMO.US) has confirmed that its TaqPath COVID-19 series combination kits and TaqPath COVID-19 CE-IVD RT-PCR kits for the detection of new coronaviruses are not affected by the newly emerging B.1.1.529 That is, the influence of Omicron variants can achieve accurate detection results.

Omicron variants have more than 30 mutations in the spike protein alone. Both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have reported that the use of PCR detection of S gene targeting failure as an alternative technology for detection of this mutation helps to detect and identify Omicron.

It is understood that this new variant virus was first discovered in South Africa, and now more than 10 countries in the world have reported cases of infection with the virus.
