It's been a while, but I think Ford was planning to utilize RIVN's platform for some of its vehicles. If that's still the case, I would think Ford would want to hold an equity stake to keep a solid partnership in place, although maybe not the whole stake.

For those not aware, Ford has confirmed they are walking away from the RIVN platform. From the Nov. 19 news, "Both their EV development and ours have advanced to a significant degree" since the original deal was formed, giving each company more confidence to move ahead independently, the Ford rep tells the Wall Street Journal."

Regret oneself : Yes, but I wouldn't call this a divorce. Ford now owns a big piece of a new brand with its own ideas and identity. A good strategy.
