Buy high and sell low.

When the stock price keeps rising, buy when it starts to fall, that's okay. When it suddenly drops rapidly, sell quickly, but then it starts to rise again. How does that work? Sometimes I feel like I'm being played by the system. Does anyone else have the same experience and thoughts as me?
