If the pandemic ends, won’t the Metaverse fail miserably?
So many companies are getting ready to roll out the Metaverse but I just can’t see people wanting to stay home anymore. I know there will be an audience for it, but I just think the majority will just not find it appealing to put a headset on after 2+ years of not really going out.
Meta is saying they expect to have 1 billion users in the next 5 years. I just can’t see that many people buying headsets and opting to go to a virtual bar with Wii looking avatars or having business meetings as avatars.
Sure maybe like 10 years from now or in the distant future, but I’m talking about the near future.

ClydePeternuts : I miss the real world
Silverbat : The dreams just start, and Tesla is part of its creations.
lalaland happy cow : Is just how the world is progressing. Like last time how we use to play games on SeGa / Nintendo game boy controllers and buttons and we thought there’s no way to replace buttons, now I’m seeing the kids playing first person shooter game on flat screens of iPhone and iPad and they are really good at it. Come endemic, all the more metaverse will progress even faster.
Tightwad Tarantula : Around 50something% of the workforce have decided that they dont want to go back to an office setting and would rather work from home. Most companies and switching to these creative stay at home versions of the same job because it allows parents to be there 100% of the time for family and children and so forth.
They expected something like 10-15% would not return and quickly realized they grossly underestimated
Milk The Cow : I think metaverse is the future generation.
But, 5 years 1 billions users? I think there's no way...
Maybe the time come for my end, I may not even see metaverse happening anytime soon (put to use globally/regularly).
1. It cost for every headset
2. It take times for the society to accept it (how long?)
3. Glitches bond to happen
4. There's still a need for physical labour until it's proven high spec AI can work like human does.
Milk The Cow Milk The Cow : 5. If metaverse happens, many will lose their jobs or the rich will just get richer, the poor get poorer.
Until a 'fair' eco-system (I will like to call it less unfair instead) is implemented, I can't see metaverse happening anytime soon.
FURL : Wow! Brilliant question and something to dive in and think about. I hope the right people, no I hope everyone reads this and actually weighs in on it. Deep shit . thanks for morning munchies
