The manufacturing industry has always been an important pillar of Singapore's economy, accounting for about a quarter to one-fifth of its GDP. Among them, semiconductors are one of its pillar industries, known as Oriental Silicon Island. It has built a complete mature industrial chain from IC design, chip manufacturing, to packaging and testing. Almost all major semiconductor manufacturers from around the world have set up factories here, making Singapore once one of the world's semiconductor center cities.
