$Microsoft (MSFT.US)$ on Friday finally confirmed that it will allow popular game Call of Duty (CoD) to stay on $Sony (SONY.US)$ PlayStation, after the US tech giant gobbled up CoD maker $Activision Blizzard (ATVI.US)$ for $69 billion.

In a tweet, head of Xbox, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, said that CoD does have a future on Sony platforms.
Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony. I confirmed our intent to honour all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation.”
—— said Spencer.

Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship.”
—— Spencer added.
There were concerns that CoD may become a Microsoft Xbox exclusive franchise.
Japanese technology giant Sony, which saw its stock tanked after Microsoft acquired gaming company Activision Blizzard for $69 billion, on Thursday said it expects Satya Nadella-run tech giant to ensure that games like CoD remain available across platforms including its own Playstation gaming consoles.
War of video game giants: Xbox or PlayStation?
It's been more than a year since Sony and Microsoft released their latest flagship video game consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both systems have set company sales records and they remain hard to find in stores.

But, despite similar performance and price tags, the PS5 has managed to be more popular with shoppers. Sony has driven PS5 sales with blockbuster exclusives like Spider-Man, Demon's Souls, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Meanwhile, Microsoft continues to add value to the Series X with Xbox Game Pass, its  $Netflix (NFLX.US)$-style gaming subscription.
Ultimately, each system has its own strengths and weaknesses that might push buyers in one direction or the other. Mooers, what do you think of the competition between Microsoft and Sony? Do you prefer Xbox or PlayStation?

  • surfingcaliforniacoa : I think that is the right thing to do! Sony has a huge COD fan base and now when new COD titles are released that's just free money baby!

  • Charmaine Barrington : I think people prefer which ever gaming console that continues
to have not only CoD but John Madden football games, the day
either one drops Madden, the company " WILL" fall #Maddmaine.

  • Mama Cass : I'm not a gamer, but my son is. He's also 23 years old, a target demographic for gaming and he prefers Playstation.
Although he owns both Xbox and Playstation his preference leaves dust on the Xbox.
Like many his age, he has a strong preference based on whatever gaming system his parents bought him years ago.
For him, it's not dedication to a specific game genre like CoD, it's familiarity and friendship.
He's been using Playstation since he was 6 years old and he knows it well. He's also made decades long friendships on PS.
Sometimes companies get wrapped up in "brand loyalty" when all consumers are thinking is "it works well, has features I want, and all my friends use it".
I'm positive my son would be an Xbox fan if we had purchased that first.
Turns out, the Playstation 2 I won for free in a sweepstakes became the favorite purely by chance.

  • james wesley : I'm pro Xbox but this was a smart move. keeping the Doj out of this.

  • 101682730 : playstation, of cse!

  • BullishBanana : very insightful

  • KDevil87 : PlayStation for me. But then again I don’t play console games! Ahah
