Microsoft's Purchase of Activision Blizzard Isn't a "Metaverse" Play
$Microsoft(MSFT.US$ recently agreed to buy $动视暴雪(ATVI.US$ in a $68.7 billion all-cash deal. It marks Microsoft's biggest acquisition ever and would presumably widen its moat against $Sony(SONY.US$ in the console gaming market.
In its press release, $Microsoft(MSFT.US$ declared the deal would also provide the "building blocks for the metaverse," a claim which many media outlets parroted without any deeper elaboration. But if we look at the current state of the metaverse and Microsoft's position in that nascent market, we'll see that it's probably just using the term as a distracting buzzword.

StarLord1776 : why is it trading lower if Microsoft is paying 95 per share?? I know the deal might take a year to go through regulations but.... are they just shorting the heck out of it?
Mightyhuat StarLord1776 : It could likely be due to the fact that such acquisition may have the chance not going through eventually due to anti-trust. But I guess the odds of it not going through is quite low.
Charstey OP StarLord1776 : $Microsoft (MSFT.US)$ gains last one minute
Charstey OP Mightyhuat : I also think so, the probability of passing is very high
