Daily Poll: What stops you from buying chip stocks?
We see semiconductors powering the next decade of global growth in an increasingly data-hungry world, much like oil fuelled the rise of industrial economies in the last century.
Could semiconductors be the new oil?
Is it really the case?
Why wouldn't people pay more attention to the chip industry if it is true?

07140918 : Rising of China semiconductor industry will certainly have big impacts to US semicon companies revenues in the foreseeable future
AlfonsoDex : I was previously from the semiconductor industry; this industry is very volatile to economic demands. Its business fluctuates periodically, and generally this industry is sunsetting. The chip makers do not make a big margin of profit for manufacturing. It is pretty much a rat race to realise a smaller technology node, from micron to nanometers and so on. There's also very heavy competition across the various companies. So if one is really interested in this industry, I would recommend to go for the stock of the best company in this domain, TSMC $Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM.US)$
Machiavellis3rdEye : Information is the next oil. Look it up… it’s already been coined Surveillance Capitalism by Harvard professor in her book on the subject.
07140918 : Currently the bottlenecks of China semiconductor industry are lack of talents and technology, especially high end lithography tools that only manufactured by ASML. Current sanction prevent the ASML litho tools to enter China. If one day (or many years?), China can make their own tools, surely will cause a turbulent to whole semicon and WFE industry.
07140918 AlfonsoDex : I am partially agree with u. Most of the semicon manufacturers hv slim profit margin but not the one who do the most advance chips, like the 5nm from TSM (heard that they are testing 2nm line?). Besides, development of third generation semiconductor (made from SiC or GaN), by companies such as $Wolfspeed(WOLF.US)$ , $STMicroelectronics(STM.US)$ and $Navitas Semiconductor(NVTS.US)$ also worth our attention. I hv spent half of my life in this industry, witness the change from several micron to 5nm is so breathtaking
