Wealthy Women Rising
At 55 years old I can count myself as one of the many women who benefitted from the trailblazers of the '60's and '70's championing women's rights.
Instead of waiting for a man to take financial care of us we took active roles in building wealth on our own.
Ok, maybe we leaned heavily on advice from our male friends and colleagues, but the initiative was ours.
My Mother's generation put all their eggs in one basket - their husband.
Today's women understand they need to look out for themselves to better care for their families.
I view my investment strategy as just another arm of being a good wife and Mother.
Sound old fashioned? I guess I'm the product of what comes between complete dependence and complete sovereignty.
I value being a good wife and Mother and part of that is being fiscally responsible. That, and I love food - I want to eat filet mignon as a retiree and not cat food (regardless of my marital status).
Today's women are marrying later if at all and are realizing the importance of financial independence.
On average, women investors achieve positive returns and surpass men by 40 basis points, or 0.4%, an analysis of annual performance across 5.2 million accounts from January 2011 to December 2020 shows. (CNBC Oct 11, 2021.)
Why? They trade less, allowing them to ride out market lows and avoid extra fees. They also tend to invest more consistently, which means they aren't trying to time the market. Past research has also found women outperform men for similar reasons. (CNBC).
I followed this strategy starting in 1989. I didn't have a lot of money but I was young so I had time. I chose an aggressive growth mutual fund that allowed a set monthly investment and gave me 100's of stocks in one outing.
Monthly investments meant I bought in highs and in lows - dollar cost averaging.
Today that means I have a retirement income stream in the six-figures per year just for breathing.
Women may have a different mind set than men for investments. That's why we should all share. Men and women each bring something different to the table. Separately they may perform well but combined we can soar.

Milk The Cow : That's what I think too. Women does have the power to do things themselves.
Old generation just can't see this point of view or they are taught to be dependent on one person, husband.
Maybe included children.
There's no "right or wrong" to me, at least.
It's just how majority of the society view it=majority wins .
Opportunities are usually for those who are more daring. It can be Opportunities/Threat, a double edge sword.
Mama Cass OP Milk The Cow : Well put. It's been interesting to see the changes in society generationally.
My two daughters are fiercely independent and plan to provide for their families and
future husband. Of course they hope for an equal partnership but are completely prepared to be the provider!
What an absolute change!!
Milk The Cow Mama Cass OP : Yar.
But sometime need a bit of sugar coat.
If not the "man" pride will be destroyed.
Giovanni Ayala :
Milk The Cow : Oh, forgotten to say something.
"Happy IWD to you".
Mama Cass OP Milk The Cow : You're so sweet! Thank you kind Sir
