Market Crash vs Ongoing War! Sell or Not to Sell?
Let’s break it down. A 2-min read for you.
Russia-Ukraine conflict aside, if the market is going down due to macro factors such as CPI, interest rate hike and/or other Fed’s policies and their endless meetings etc, you shouldn’t be too concerned. The market has to go up someday after finding its bottom. We are very near the bottom already (personal view, not financial advice). $SPDR S&P 500 ETF(SPY.US$ $Nasdaq Composite Index(.IXIC.US$ $Nasdaq(NDAQ.US$
Now let’s talk about the ongoing war. If you think the war will cause the market to crash further and you should sell now to cut losses, I think that could be a mistake. Markets usually rebound even before the war ends. I mean, since your portfolio is already in the reds, why not do nothing and wait for it to go up?
But what if it turns into a full-blown nuclear war or World War III? Then boy, I think… stock market will be the least of your concern. Many countries and lives will be affected. You might be carrying a gun to defend your country at the home front, instead of holding your phone to sell stocks. You might not even know if you can still live to see the next sunrise. So, whether you sell your stocks or not, it doesn’t matter anymore.
It’s quite sad that in this civilised era and modern society, a country and its citizens still have to fight and defend their homeland from invasion and…for freedom.
It’s even more disturbing and heart wrenching to see many videos on social media showing how innocent lives were lost and how even a 80-year old man wants to defend his country.
So never take Freedom for granted.
Whichever your religion, I hope you can pray for world peace to restore and recover. And if it matters, your stock prices will follow suit (I’ll bet my last dollar on this)
