At this stage, the interest rate hike is already widely expected and markets have already priced it in - as evidenced by the drop in the prices of REITs as an example. Based on this, I opine that there will be little impact on the stock market should the Fed raise rates as the stock market is all about expectations.
I wouldn’t focus on a specific sector that will particularly be impacted but I will be wary of companies that are highly indebted. These companies tend to get into trouble when their debt obligations go up and they are unable to meet them. We have seen this too often yet somehow or other, people will still get burnt!
