Amazon is close to closing its acquisition of MGM

$Amazon(AMZN.US)$ deal to buy movie studio MGM is likely to close in the coming days, as regulators have a mid-March deadline to challenge the planned merger.
Antitrust agencies in the U.S. and Europe need to assess whether Amazon's $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM violated antitrust laws. The deal has raised antitrust concerns, largely due to MGM's vast library of content. Opponents of the deal point to more than 55,000 titles in Amazon's Prime Video library, far more than the roughly 20,000 titles that $Netflix(NFLX.US)$ owns if the deal goes through.
According to reports, EU antitrust regulators will unconditionally approve the acquisition plan. Their deadline to act is March 15.
The time limit for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to bring legal action against Amazon expires in mid-March. Amazon is free to close the deal if the FTC doesn't challenge the deal by the deadline. Sources say Amazon has largely complied with the FTC's request for transaction information.
