Amazon's 8.5 billion acquisition of MGM will inject new impetus into streaming
On March 17, Amazon announced that it had completed the acquisition of Hollywood studio MGM in a deal valued at $8.5 billion. Affected by this transaction, Amazon's shares rose 2.17% to $3,130.
$Amazon (AMZN.US)$ said it hopes to inject new impetus into its streaming platform PrimeVideo through the deal. MGM will provide Amazon PrimeVideo with more than 4,000 movies, enabling it to compete with $Netflix (NFLX.US)$ and $Disney (DIS.US)$ Company. Prime costs $14.99 a month in the US.
Amazon previously demonstrated to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that it had provided antitrust investigators reviewing the deal that it was free to proceed with the deal.
The move put the deal into a regulatory deadline that has now expired, but even if the deadline passes, there is still the ability to propose a takeover at a later date if the FTC majority votes, a person familiar with the matter said.

MonkeyGee : The media companies will become even hotter after the Discovery merger. We have NFLX, AMZN, AAPL, PARA, DISCA, Viacom. you can tell who is the top tier players and who will be gobbled up. If I was the big three I will be fighting for DISCA. I'm waiting for the merger to complete to see what the market cap will be. DISCA with DC ip will worth over 100B. see what Disney has don't with Marvel. Marvel will soon generate more money than the DIS theme parks. And if DIS can get DC they will be set for the next 100 years.
