Another punch to give! Are you ready for this?

An ACMA investigation that found four-fifths of Australian adults had experienced misinformation about COVID-19 and 76% thought online platforms should do more to cut the amount of false and misleading content online, mostly on larger services like Meta Platforms's Facebook $Meta Platforms (FB.US)$ and Twitter $Twitter (Delisted) (TWTR.US)$ Inc.

In response, the Australian government released the latest measure to be able to force internet companies to share data on how they deal with misinformation and disinformation under new laws, which will strengthen the government's efforts to rein in big tech companies.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) will also be able to enforce internet industry codes on non-cooperative platforms

On the other hand, DIGI, an Australian industry body representing Facebook $Meta Platforms (FB.US)$ , Alphabet's Google $Alphabet-C (GOOG.US)$ , Twitter $Twitter (Delisted) (TWTR.US)$ , and video site TikTok, said it supported the recommendations and noted it had already set up a system to process complaints about misinformation.
