Percentage of covid confirmed case plays a significant role on reopening of Singapore’s travel border
In my point of view, having Singapore’s border for trial to reopen, will depend on the total amount of covid confirmed case in Singapore. Currently, a total of 95% (https://www.gov.sg/features/covid-19) of eligible population has completed vaccination,and 71% of the total population have received their booster shots. According to CDC, a fully vaccinated personal can prevent serious illness and reduce the risk of getting or spreading of covid-19 virus (https:// www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/vaccine-benefits.html). As of now, the total number of case in Singapore is 1,101,438 (https://www.gov.sg/features/covid-19) and the total population in Singapore consists of approximately 5,700,000. At this stage, approximately 19.4 percent of the singapore population covid confirmed case (not including case that wasn’t report), and Singapore government decides to open the border between Singapore and Malaysia. I believe that Singapore government is already working on the details to reopen the border for travel purposes. Infection ratio of below one has been an indicator for the government to justify their action. The Covid-19 week-on-week infection ratio has remained below one for twenty plus days according to The Business Times (https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/government-economy/4925-new-covid-19-cases-in-singapore-infection-ratio-down-for-27th-day?amp).
Hence, we can look forward to the announcement on opening of Singapore border for travel purposes if these conditions are satisfied:
1. Infection ratio remained less than or equal to 1 (Reason for government to justify that the infection rate are saturated)
2. Total number of covid confirmed case reach 1,500,000
Assuming each day has 5,000 cases, it will take approximately 80 days to meet 1,500,000 cases, and that will further lower the infection cases each day, that will probably lower the guard toward covid-19 and people will take covid infection in a more relax way just like a flu.
