AU Evening Wrap: ASX ends higher as material stocks rise

The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ rallied 20 points or 0.27 per cent to 7513.7. The index hit its 2022 closing peak at 7589.8 in the first week of the year and has since traded as low as 6758.
Lithium was last week’s hottest sub-sector and continued to shine today. $Liontown Resources Ltd(LTR.AU$ climbed 9 per cent, $Allkem Ltd(AKE.AU$ 7.34 per cent and $Pilbara Minerals Ltd(PLS.AU$ 5.54 per cent.
Mineral sands miner $Iluka Resources Ltd(ILU.AU$ rallied 6.08 per cent after greenlighting a rare earths refinery in WA. Gold miner $De Grey Mining Ltd(DEG.AU$ jumped 6.91 per cent.
Consumer stocks were the biggest drag ahead of tomorrow’s RBA policy update. At the top end, $Aristocrat Leisure Ltd(ALL.AU$ declined 3.01 per cent, $Woolworths Group Ltd(WOW.AU$ 0.86 per cent and $Wesfarmers Ltd(WES.AU$ 0.38 per cent. $Breville Group Ltd(BRG.AU$ shed 1.94 per cent, $Domino's Pizza Enterprises Ltd(DMP.AU$ 1.84 per cent and $Reece Ltd(REH.AU$ 1.48 per cent.
