Is 2022 a good year to invest?

Hello! Any new investors out there?
The recent market volatility has been rather wild, coupled with the ongoing war and interest rate hikes in US, some investors may have paused their buying or investment plan temporarily. New investors could feel nervy or a little lost (not knowing what to do).
Personally, I see 3 good reasons to invest this year, namely:
1. Stocks are cheaper than last year! *Scream discount* - Time to shop for stocks like Nvidia and Microsoft
2. Looming recession – sounds strange to invest when a recession could be lurking around? Well, the average return for 5 years after a recession is a whopping 120%!
3. Deployment of money - there is almost nowhere to place your money. Yes, sometimes, the reason to invest is just as simple as this. Inflation is rising around the world, but banks are still offering very low interest rate for fixed deposits. So would you want to put your money in the banks and let them lose value due inflation?
Some may ask, what if there is another huge or similar correction in Q2 or later half this year. This concern is valid, but let me share a quote with you: What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?

  • PandaMoo : Feels like hanging in the balance, an egg on the tip of a bullhorn, tense, adrenaline rush, thriller.

    But it is a good period for practising our patieence,  emotional control, think creative, and of course grab some short-time big profits (and big losses) [undefined][undefined][undefined].
    2022 will be something special written in the history.

  • Cow Moo-ney OP user77248281 : That’s because technology is driving the world forward now. There is a reason why they are currently in the top 10 companies in US. But of course 20 years later, things may change - just like how the top 10 companies in 80s/90s were oil companies, consumer goods, telcos etc.

    Therefore, it depends on how long you plan to hold. And it’s also important to stay nimble, so that you can change your portfolio along the way.

    Anyway, Nvidia is more of a semiconductor firm. Another company which I have high conviction in is Tesla - which is in the EV industry - so you can add abit of these if you’re uncomfortable to have a full tech portfolio. Disney also looking good in the next 1-2 years (but the gains will not be as much as the other giants).

  • Cow Moo-ney OP user77248281 : For Fed meeting, my view is that it’s kind of per expectation. The last 2 days sell-off was likely triggered by Lael Brainard’s speech of Fed gonna be more aggressive to fight inflation - this, probably came as a lil surprise to Wall Street.
