Peter Thiel calls Warren Buffett a 'sociopathic grandpa from Omaha' and bitcoin's 'enemy number one'

Billionaire entrepreneur Peter Thiel called Warren Buffett, Jamie Dimon and Larry Fink members of a "finance gerontocracy" opposed to a "revolutionary youth movement" that embraces Bitcoin.
Thiel is a co-founder of $PayPal (PYPL.US)$, $Palantir (PLTR.US)$, and Founders Fund. He was also the first outside investor in $Meta Platforms (FB.US)$.
In his keynote speech at the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami Thursday, Thiel blamed the finance titans for the digital currency's failure to reach $100,000, a benchmark popular among the asset's die-hard supporters.
Thiel said Warren Buffett tops an "enemies list" of people who are trying to stop the cryptocurrency. "Enemy number one," Thiel said to a booing Miami crowd, is "the sociopathic grandpa from Omaha." (Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is based in Omaha, Neb.)

The "enemies list" also include Dimon, the 66-year-old CEO of $JPMorgan (JPM.US)$, and Fink, 69, who runs $Blackrock (BLK.US)$. All of these "grandpas" have said they're skeptical of Bitcoin or digital currencies in general.
Thiel also attacked central bankers including Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

"Mr. Powell -- people like that -- should be extremely grateful to Bitcoin because it's the last warning they are going to get," Thiel said. “They've chosen to ignore it, and they will have to pay the consequences for that in the years ahead.”

Mooers, do you agree with this "enemy list"?

  • 71215145 : Those old grandpa are crooks   Bitcoin threatens their way to control monetary policy

  • 71628116 71215145 : lol China is bitcoins biggest enemy. and if you remember the Canadian truckers getting crypto seized without a cold wallet you aren't safe.

  • 71707650 : Yes,except the hypocrisy that Jamie Dimon opened up the first crypto bank in the meta verse!?  That's what all these wall streets do is gamble on everything it's called the sin of greed.

  • lightfoot : We are all protective of our way of life.  Why fix something that is not broken.  Why create a new government. Our founders gave us a great nation.  let us keep it, if works damn well.  why bitcoin.  I like our currency.   Why have we not changed to meters or celcius.  it is European.  we are not. We are Americans. stop with attacking our identity.  we will never be anything but Americans. Get it.  I support Buffet, Diamond

  • 102315873 : You also failed to mention that Thiel has stated that democracy and freedom are incompatible, discouraged youth from getting a university education despite being a graduate of Stanford himself, and has donated large sums to Donald Trump.
Thiel is not a genuine supporter of the so -called "revolutionary youth movement". He's a cynical, self-serving opportunist seeking to capitalize on the mob mentality so prevalent amongst many of those who buy crypto to further enrich himself.
I'd much rather put my support towards someone like Jerome Powell. Whatever his flaws, he at least has a mandate to stabilize and grow the entire US economy (unlike Thiel, who is only concerned with whatever he happens to be invested in), and anything Powell does is carefully scrutinized and in the full glare of the media. Thiel in contrast, is little more than a rabble-rouser making provocative statements.

I expected more from a post featured by moomoo.

  • 102315873 71215145 : You really think a central bank having control of monetary policy is bad? What happens then during a financial crisis, when spending and credit dries up, and the economy is in a downward spiral? Who will you turn to in order to stop the decline, and put the economy back in order? Your Bitcoin miners?

The common refrain I get from many Bitcoin enthusiasts when I express my skepticism is that I don't understand Bitcoin. No, I do understand it, probably more than most of them do. It is these Bitcoin enthusiasts who need to get a better understanding of how the economy works.

  • ReverseOrContinue : The distrust of people in the financial system really culminates in the wide spread use of Bitcoin as a store of value. But I don't think it can really solve all of the problems in the system. Targeting the figures of business doesn't help the cause.

  • MisterJ420 : they delay it only bc they haven't found a way to control it

  • waddestar-moo-trader : really disagree Bitcoin is all volume hype with no intrinsic value but just revolt Cryptocurrency

  • waddestar-moo-trader : disagree:, Bitcoin is nothing but volume hype and no intrinsic value revolt Cryptocurrency
