Over 2 billion! Japanese auto giant may be forced to pay compensation

Federal Court today ruled in favor of a class action over faulty diesel particulate filters on more than 250,000 HiLux, Prado, and Fortuner models. After losing a class-action lawsuit this week, Toyota could be hit with a $2 billion-plus compensation bill for faulty diesel particulate filters. Furthermore, Federal Court ruled today the anti-pollution devices were defective and put thousands of vehicles off the road for time-consuming repairs.

The Federal court declared that the damages were awarded for a reduction in the car's value and lost earnings incurred when the work vehicle was off the road.

It is worth mentioning that the Toyota HiLux has been one of the best-selling vehicles in Australia for the past decade. At the beginning of 2022, Toyota is marking 25 years as the best-selling automotive brand in Australia, with a pledge to bring an even greater customer focus to its operations.
