Apple Car Director Leaves the Company After Seven Months

Apple Car Director Leaves the Company After Seven Months
Former $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ Autopilot director Christopher "CJ" Moore is now a former Apple car director as well. The $Apple (AAPL.US)$ car project has just lost another top executive tasked with advancing its carmaker aspirations. Former Apple manager Christopher “CJ” Moore is leaving the iPhone maker for $Luminar Technologies (LAZR.US)$ , after working at Apple for a remarkably short amount of time: seven months.
The departure from Apple continues a string of high-profile changes to its car project. Over the last two years, nearly the entire Apple Car management team has left. Earlier this month, Ian Goodfellow, another director on the Apple project, left for $Alphabet-A (GOOGL.US)$ ’s DeepMind. At the same time, Apple has hired new managers from $Ford Motor (F.US)$ , $Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ and other car industry players.
This latest departure at Apple has to be one of the fastest cases of top-level employee turnover so far, which is saying a lot given the rate at which Apple executives have come and gone. In fact, Bloomberg says that at this point, almost all the leadership positions at the rumored Apple car project have been vacated..

  • TeslaSmurf : There is no such thing on the way. MAYBE, once the EV industry gets more mature (after 2025) they could get it produced by someone else, maybe Foxcom (produces Apple smartphones in China) which has just bought a relatively SMALL plant in the US. If it comes out, it will be quite trendy, of course, not massively produced, at least for a while: nor Foxcom nor Apple know ANYTHING about cars. Surely they are studying how to make them, but it will take a while before they get it. No one has succeeded (including Tesla) to avoid the extremely harsh learning-production curve. It took Tesla 15 years with Elon LIVING in the Fremont factory for three years to set the production of the model  3. The rest is HISTORY and… they don’t have Elon.

  • PaAg1378 : Somehow i dont tink tim cook is a good leader for apple.. Not investing in apple til they get their focus straightened out.. Just my own opinion..

  • TeslaSmurf PaAg1378 : Tesla has almost 20Billions free cash in the bank, no debt but they are growing at incredible speed. Apple has no debt and HUNDREDs of billions in the bank. They are basically a mature company and they just DON’T KNOW what to do with all that money. EVIDENTLY they don’t want to take risks, otherwise, following Tesla’s path in EV making would have been a natural solution (and a great increase in value). But acting like Tesla in this new sector means to vertically integrate, in other terms to build and manage production plants, supply chains, human and phisical resources: ALL things they are not used to as they outsource their whole production: Apple is a GIANT brain (and head) without a body. If Foxcom should blow up tomorrow, they would crash immediately.

  • PaAg1378 TeslaSmurf : Agree! This may very well b one of the reasons tension between china n usa is high and americans just want to play on taiwanese anti china sentiments... All simply business as usual

  • RDK79 : Apple car…. seems to be all rumor and hype and hope.  Don’t think there’s anything there unless they team up with someone, which Apple HATES to do!!

  • RDK79 : FYI. (Sorry a bit long). Luminar Technologies, Inc., an automotive technology company, provides sensor technologies and software for passenger cars and commercial trucks in North America, the Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. It operates in two segments, Autonomy Solutions and Components. This segment also designs, tests, and provides consulting services for non-standard integrated circuits for use in automobile and aeronautics sector, as well as government spending in military and defense activities. • TeslaSmurf PaAg1378 : I haven’t understood if it’s more negative sentiment from the Taiwanese people towards the Chinese dictatorship or more negative sentiment from the Chinese government to Taiwanese democracy. They are ALL Chinese people after all, and I truly love their culture and their mood. What a pity being angry just for politics….

  • RDK79 : Departing as Director after only 7 months.. not a good sign.
