Enron: the smartest person in the room
Reason for recommendation: Enron's story tells investors that any number on the financial statement, profits, liabilities, and cash flow, can be falsified. Borrowing and selling assets can be reported as sustainable profits. As the largest bankruptcy in the United States at that time, the collapse of Enron shocked the whole society, and government officials, financial commentators, lawyers and the media all tried to find the secrets. Many violations of Enron are in the gray area of the law, which is also a wake-up call for financial practitioners.
Film Review: based on Enron's best-selling book The Smartest Guys inthe Room, this film documents the biggest business scandal in Wall Street's history-the Enron incident, and reveals how a group of extremely smart senior managers failed the seventh largest company in the United States, easily swept away a billion dollars, made investors lose all their money and tens of thousands of employees lost their jobs.
