Bull Session | How much do you think Buffett's lunch auction will be fetched?
The world's most expensive lunch will go on sale again this spring when investor Warren Buffett auctions off a private meal to raise money for a California homeless charity one last time.
Buffett, $Berkshire Hathaway-A(BRK.A.US$'s CEO, held the lunch auction once a year for 20 years before the pandemic began to raise money for the Glide Foundation, which helps the homeless in San Francisco. The auction has been on hiatus for the past two years, but Glide said Monday — a few days before thousands of shareholders are expected to gather at this week's Berkshire annual meeting — that the event will be revived this year.
Every winning bid since 2008 has topped $1 million, and Buffett has raised nearly $34.5 million for the charity over the years. In the last auction, a cryptocurrency pioneer paid $4,567,888 in 2019 for the chance to dine with Buffett.
Buffett has said he supports Glide because they help people in difficult situations find hope again in life. Glide provides meals, health care, job training, rehabilitation and housing support to the poor and homeless.
The 91-year-old billionaire didn't immediately respond to questions about why he decided the end the auction after this year.
Bidding for the “Power of One” charity auction lunch with the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway will open on Sunday, June 12, at 10:30 p.m. ET on eBay with an opening bid of $25,000 and continue through June 17.
The winner will get to bring up to seven people to eat with Buffett at the Smith & Wollensky steak house in New York City. The only topic that's off limits at the lunch is what Buffett might buy next.
Cryptocurrency industry company is confident to bring kimchi for Buffett
One of the companies in the cryptocurrency industry participating in this auction is named LunchDao, a community-driven autonomous organization that bids for power lunch with Warren Buffett in 2022 to promote Buffett and the traditional financial forces behind him to enter the crypto industry. The organization mainly raises target funds by issuing the DAO governance token LUNCH, and uses the funds raised for the auction of “Buffett's Last Lunch”.
LunchDao officially launched Juicebox on April 1st this year, with a total fundraising target of 2000 ETH. By the end of 00:00 AM UTC on May 28th, it has raised over 850 ETH, which is about 1.5 million US dollars. Although there is still a big gap from the amount of the last Buffett lunch auction, in view of the current global economy of the special political environment, this auction may have a low price bid, and Lunch DAO is expected to win the auction.
LunchDAO also seems determined to win the auction, public on twitter that it will bring him some authentic Kimchi and possibly Peking Duck.
