Yes for me, the retail investor may be able to beat the market, but also need to consider the taxes, investment fees, human and so on working against them, so more depending on luck. I believe the retail investor will perform better than most investors. No doubt that small investor portfolios are beating institutional investor's, preferred stocks among retail investors are beating hedge fund.
